Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism left him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
